Young

Master of Computing (Advanced)
“ANU is truly world class, [it] offers quality courses and knowledgeable lecturers that contributed immensely to society in their specialised field. My AI lecturer is one of them.”
Young is studying Master of Computing - having previously acquired a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the University of Nottingham.
The Master of Computing at ANU allows students to specialise in an area of their choice, and Young is interested in applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) to the computing field. His interest in the discipline was sparked while working with technology company Intel, Malaysia.
Young, originally from Penang, said that the choice to move to Canberra was easy, and the experience was worth it.
“I chose ANU [over other options] because it is the best university in Australia, and Canberra is a conducive place to study… One of my lecturers’ back in my undergraduate days studied here as well, and he is a genius with a sense of humour”.
Young enjoys the small class sizes and collaborative culture he has found at ANU.
“I’m able to ask questions in lectures and tutorials, I have the feeling that everyone is working together to learn and to solve problems”.
One of the benefits Young has found while studying internationally is the diverse set relationships he has formed. In addition to that, Young managed to secure an internship with continuing offer from Xero having worked there as a vacation student during the summer. During the semester Young works casually with ANUOnline, Wattle Team, supporting students and lecturer. Wattle is an online student learning platform used by students and lecturers on campus.
“One of my greatest achievements while studying is that I have made friends with people all around the world. We would study together, help each other out in lab sessions and celebrate milestones together”.
