This project seeks to investigate the potential of using Graph databases as a novel approach to interrogate and extracting information from medical records.

As part of activities associated with The Big Sleep ACT project, the research team is developing a graph database platform for the sorage, retrieval and analysis of medical information related to sleep medicine. An initial database prototype based on Neo4j was prototyped in 2021 by ANU students.

We are looking for students interested in medical informatics to take this project to the next step, which may include some of the following activities:
- data ETL up-scaling for the test database
- review and enhancement of the prototype database structure
- researching optimal targets for graph-based research in this medical application
- utilising appropriate analytic tools to answer real clinical questions developed in collaboration with partner clinicians

The project is multi-disciplinary and multi-faceded and may suit students with different skillsets and experience. We have historically had contributions from Bachelor of Advanced Computing (Honours) applicants, but encourage anyone interested to reach out for more information.
