Description
Australian National University: PhD Opportunity – Laser additive manufacturing of advanced metallic materials for orthopaedic implant
The project aims to develop novel implant system via laser additive manufacturing. This project will lead to the innovations in structure, material, and surface processing of biocompatiable alloys that will satisfy the demand for orthopaedic surgery. In addition to innovation in advanced manufacturing, this project is expected to enhance the fundamental knowledge in mechanics, materials science, and electrochemistry.
Selection criteria
Essential
- Academic qualification. Applicants should hold an Honours 1st class (or equivalent) undergraduate degree, or a Masters degree, in a relevant discipline or the equivalent combination of professional experience and academic qualifications
- Communication skills in both in writing and orally, presenting research work and outcomes to different audiences
Highly Desirable
- Experience in any of: metals and alloys, biomaterials, laser additive manufacturing, surface and electrochemistry.
- Structure design, finite element analysis, simulation, and optimisation
- Hands on experience on additive manufacturing
- Hands on experience on electron microscopy and electrochemistry testing.
Conditions for application
- Capacity to be based at the ANU campus in Canberra.
- The projects will work in an integrated manner with Trauma and Orthopaedic Research Unit Laboratory at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, and Monash Centre for Additive Manufacturing.
- Applicants should submit cover letter detailing relevant experience and research interest; CV with names and addresses of three referees; and academic transcripts.
